Whats the best choice when it comes to mobility?
This is a little something about the writer; Mark Sproxton is a freelance writer who works full-time in the IT industry.
Choosing a cellular device is a bit like choosing a paint colour. The dozens of options seemingly vary only by the angle of the sun.
While you can re-paint a wall easily, switching devices can be a costly endeavour. Making the right device choice for you and your business is important from the start.
So which device is best? All work well. The definition of best depends on your needs.
Much like choosing the trendy paint colour, a device receiving the most current hype may not fit your life or work style. With the wrong colour, you wind up swapping your living room furniture, draperies, carpets etc.
Choosing the right wireless device from the get go means more time with the device working for you instead of you working on trouble-shooting your PDA.
When purchasing a device, consider the factors below, plan to spend time speaking with your sales rep about your options and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions.
Options to consider:
1) Screen size is key. If you are trying to read full documents, especially spreadsheets, the larger the screen the better. If you mostly read and write email, other factors are likely more important.
2) Is a full keyboard required, or are you OK with simultaneously using the Alt key to generate certain letters? Would you prefer a touch screen to external buttons? Spend time trying the available types with your sales rep.
3) Some kind of a scroll button is required to move between functions. Again, do you prefer an external button, or ball or a touch screen? See #2.
4) Are pictures or videos important? If so, screen resolution and battery life need examination.
5) If using your device as a phone is key, then you will want a sound speakerphone to ensure your voice is heard and that you can hear the incoming call. Ask your sales rep for help here too.
